Contraindications
to Botox Use
- •
Hypersensitivity to ingredients (albumin, sodium chloride,
botulinum toxin)
- •
Neuromuscular disease (myasthenia gravis, Easton-Lambert
Syndrome, motor neuro disease)
- •
Patients treated with botox concurrent with other drugs
that interfere with neuromuscular transmission: antibiotics
(i.e. certain animoglycosides, lincosamides polymixins),
penicillamine, quinine, calcium channel blockers, neuromuscular
blocking agents (i.e. atracurium, succinylcholine), anticholinesterases,
magnesium sulphate, and quinidine – all may increase
the paralytic effect of the toxin (also potentially other
serologic types of botulinum)

Pregnancy / lactation
- •
Patients on anticoagulation therapy/ aspirin (relative contraindication)
- •
Inappropriate anatomy (skin laxity, photo-damage)
- •
Poor psychological adjustments, unrealistic expectations
