Enlargement
of the breasts using silicone implants is fast becoming
the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the UK.
What
Size?
It
is possible to increase the breast size by 1 to 3 cup
sizes. Most women will have experienced the fact that
if measured at different shops they are given a different
“cup size”. The cup size also varies depending
on the manufacturing of the bra. We therefore cannot guarantee
a specific cup size following breast augmentation. However
we use various techniques to achieve the size you desire.
The increase in size depends on existing size of your
breasts and the breast base size (the diameter of the
base of the breast where it is attached to the chest wall).
Am
I suitable for Breast Enhancement?
Most
women with small breasts, who are medically fit and have
realistic expectations, would be suitable for the breast
enlargement procedure. The final decision can only be
made after consultation with our consultant cosmetic surgeon
who specialises in this form of surgery.
If your breasts have excessive drooping (Ptosis), then
you may be advised to consider an “uplift”
procedure (Mastopexy) which can be done with or without
adding a breast implant. There is no substitute for a
consultation with our consultant before making a decision.
What
shape will I have?
The
final shape after surgery depends on a number of factors,
your existing breast shape, chest wall shape and the shape
of the implants etc. Breast implants come in round or
tear drop shapes, you can choose which one to use after
discussion with the surgeon. It is your choice.
Where
are the scars?
The
scars are in the crease under the breasts
Where
are the implants placed?
Depending
on how much tissue you have, the surgeon will recommend
whether the breast implant is placed under the breast
tissue or under the muscle. Both procedures/ placements
have advantages and disadvantages and these will be explained
at your consultation. It’s your choice
What
is the recovery period?
For
most women it takes 2 to 4 weeks to recover from this
surgery.
When
can I drive a car?
Usually
after 2 weeks, but do check with you insurance company.
When
can I exercise?
Gradually
start upper body exercise after 4 weeks.
Can
I Breast Feed?
Yes.
Can
I have correction of breast asymmetry (breast of different
size or shape)?
Correcting
asymmetry may be as simple as using different size implants
at surgery or a complex combination of procedures. Your
surgeon will be able to guide you as to the most suitable
course of action. There is no substitute for a consultation
with a specialist plastic cosmetic surgeon.
What
are the risks with Breast Enlargement?

surgical procedures carry some risks. Your surgeon will
