Breast Uplift is a procedure for women who are happy with the size of their breasts but want them lifted and firmer. Drooping . of breasts may results as a consequence of pregnancy, breast feeding gravity or loss of skin elasticity.
Mastopexy lifts, firms and reshapes the breasts by removing excess skin, this results in a more youthful position and shapes for breasts.

Women who have drooping of breast and find they have lost breasts and find they have lost breast volume can have a combination of uplift and insertion of an implant, improving the shape and appearance of their breasts.

Breast uplift is suitable for women who have:

• Pendulous breasts.
• Nipples pointing downwards
• Asymmetry (Different size Breast)
• Loss of volume with drooping of breasts

Your Consultation

You will have a consultation with a specialist surgeon who will listen to your concerns, examine you and advise you on what can be done. The surgeon will explain the procedure, its limitations and potential complications.
There is no substitute for a direct consultation with a fully accredited surgeon who is a member of BAAPS.

The Mastopexy Procedure

The procedure repositions the nipples, rearranges the breast tissue and removes the excess skin. If you have chosen an enhancement then this procedure will include insertion of a breast implant.

There are a number of different ways to carrying out a breast lift. The procedure for you will be chosen after taking into consideration your existing breast shape, position of the nipples and your desires.
Usually the incision involves an “anchor shape” scar. Other techniques involve different shaped scars. Ask your surgeon to illustrate these to you.

Before Surgery

You will be asked to:
• Stop smoking
• Discontinue oral contraceptive pills (use alternative methods)/ HRT
• Not to take aspirin or anti inflammatory drugs as they increase the risk of bleeding
• Not to take off the shelves herbal medicines or nutrition supplements.
• Attend a medical examination (pre operative assessment) clinic where certain tests may be carried out to ensure your safety during anaesthesia and surgery.

What are the risks for Breast Uplift?

Inevitable Consequences of Surgery

Bleeding, oozing, Bruising, Swelling and Discomfort are inevitable after this surgery. Scars take 18 months to mature. These tend to be red and some time lumpy in the first weeks. Healing of the wounds take about 2-3 weeks.

Complications

• Haematoma (collection of blood) requiring return to theatre
• Infection (1-4%) – if severe may lead to tissue(skin / breast tissue) loss
• Fat necrosis (10%)- resulting in lumps which may or may not resolve.
• Hypertrophic or keloid (lumpy) scars
• Delayed wound healing (20%)
• Dog ears (folds of skin and fat at the end of scars)
• Loss of sensation in nipple / breast skin (30%)
• Loss (necrosis/death) of nipple areola or skin (risk 1%)
• Breast feeding problems
• Cancer screening. When you have a mammogram (x-ray of the breast) the doctor should know you have had surgery to the breasts.
• DVT and PE – clots in the legs and these clots travelling to the lung.

After Care
