The
sagging of brow may cause the person to look tired, angry
and old. A Brow Lift is performed as an inpatient procedure
under a general anaesthetic. Typically it takes 1 to 2 hours
and an overnight stay in hospital. With the `open` method
the incision is hidden just inside your hair line or a few
centimetres behind the hair line. Selected muscles and excess
skin may be removed to lift the brow position and improve
the appearance of wrinkles on the brow.
Endoscopic
brow lift is a similar, minimally invasive procedure to lift
the brow and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead.
Endoscopic or minimal-scar brow lift is performed using a
fibre optic camera inserted via small incisions in the hair
line. This is attached to a television screen allowing the
surgeon to visualize the surgical field. It leaves hidden
small scars and the brow is in a lifted, younger position.
You
can expect some discomfort after this procedure, as well as
some swelling and bruising. As the incisions heal, you will
notice some itching and possibly some numbness. This usually
improves with time. The risks with this procedure include
paralysis of the muscles which move the brow; this is usually
temporary but can be permanent. Hair loss in the area of surgery
is also a risk with this procedure.
All
surgical procedures carry certain risks and there are limitations
of what can be achieved. A full and frank discussion with
the surgeon is the only way to gain a clear insight into the
procedure and allow you to make an informed decision about
your surgery.
