PIP Breast Implants

Important Information

No surgeons at Sthetix have ever used PIP Implants (Poly Implant Prosthese)

A statement from our Medical Director:

Mr. Alvi FRCS (Plast)

Mr Rizwan Alvi (FRCS Plast, BAAPS & BAPRAS member)

Please be assured that none of our Consultant Plastic surgeons have ever used Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) implants.

At Sthetix, we only use Allergan Natrelle or Nagor Impleo implants which we believe are some of the best quality implants in the UK and this view is mirrored by many leading professional bodies and organisations.

Although rupture rates with PIP implants are reported to be high, we have most definitely had a considerable increase in patients contacting us for implant exchange who did have PIP implants who have had concerns with capsular contracture (breast scar tissue becoming hard or uncomfortable) or rupture.

For anyone who is concerned or unsure of their implant manufacturer, please continue to read below for some useful information and steps to take.

What concerned patients should do:

  1. Consult/Speak to your Provider or Surgeon to establish your implant manufacturer
  2. Check your Patient Agreement/Contract to establish your rights regarding re-admission policies/Aftercare policy (in particular regarding Implant Rupture and Encapsulation (also called Capsular Contracture)
  3. We would suggest an MRI scan if rupture is suspected
  4. Visit your GP for advice
  5. Research future surgeons organisations thoroughly if you are considering re-augmentation

We are happy to advise patients further on this.

Facts about PIP implants:

  1. Implants are filled with non-medical grade silicone
  2. UK Consultants are issuing concerns over "controversial implants"
  3. PIP implants do have a higher failure rate
  4. In 2010, the MHRA commission tested, and found no evidence for genotoxicity (cancer causing potential) or chemical toxicity
  5. The UK Cancer Registry found no direct links to cancer
  6. Breast feeding mothers with PIP implants have reported no issues or difficulties
