Correction of Breast Asymmetry

Key Points

Duration of surgery: 2 to 3 hour

Hospital stay: 2 night

Anaesthesia: GA
Recovery period: 4 to 6 weeks

Almost all women have some degree of breast asymmetry.  A minor degree does not require correction, however when the asymmetry interferes with selection of clothing or psychological or sexual well being of a person, corrective breast surgery can produce pleasing results.  A combination of procedures may be used to achieve a greater degree of symmetry.   Absolute symmetry is usually impossible to achieve.

Suitability for surgery

Any woman who has significant diffarence between the size of right and left breast may benefit from surgical correction.

Surgical Options

various options are available to increase, decrease and alter the shape of the breast to achieve more symmetrical breasts.

  • Breast Enlargement
  • Breast Reduction
  • Breast uplift with or without enlargement
  • Fat transfer
  •

    Consultation

It is essential that a through discussion takes place between the surgeon and the patient about the various options, there limitations and potential complications. the option chosen depends on the condition of the existing breast tissue, the degree of 'drooping', the volume of tissue available and the patients desired result. Depending on what options are chosen, surgery may be carried out on one or both breasts.
