Breast enlargement, enhancement or augmentation involves insertion of an implant under the breast to increase the size of the breast and in some cases improve the shape as well.
Breast enlargement, when done for the right reasons, may transform your life. It is a relatively safe procedure when carried out by fully qualified plastic surgeons.
Sthetix clinic in North West England offers the best quality implants including Allergan Natrelle® and Nagor Impleo®. We offer consultations in Liverpool, Crosby and Ormskirk. Surgery can be carried out at CQC registered hospitals in Liverpool, Southport and Ormskirk.
Our surgeons are some of the most experienced and fully qualified Consultant Plastic surgeons in the country. As members of BAAPS, BAPRAS and/or ISAPS, surgeons are required to have demonstrated a high skill level, as well as accredited specialist training.
Am I suitable for Breast Enhancement?
Common reasons for women seeking breast enlargement are feelings that their bodies are out of proportion from either, lack of development of breast tissue, or having lost breast tissue following weight loss or breastfeeding. This may lead to a lack of confidence and self-esteem, as well as limiting their choice of clothing.
A suitable candidate for breast enlargement must be medically fit and psychologically stable. A detailed consultation directly with a Consultant Plastic Surgeon will provide you with the required information to make an informed decision.
In certain circumstances, for example, where there is excessive drooping (breast ptosis), then you may be advised to consider an uplift procedure (mastopexy) which can be done with or without adding a breast implant.
Choosing your breast implant:
When considering a breast enlargement, it is extremely important that you research the quality of the implant on offer. Not all implants are of the same quality, as was recently demonstrated by the problems widely reported with the use of PIP implants.
We offer the Allergan Natrelle® and Nagor Impleo® implants as standard. These are arguably some of the most advanced implants available. These are provided as standard and at no extra cost to our patients. We do not use cheaper, or lower quality implants and will not discount the surgery by saving on the quality of the implant, surgeon or the hospital.
Our implant manufacturers give a life time guarantee regarding implant integrity. The implants used are usually made of a silicone outer layer and a silicone gel filling.
Our surgeons in North West England won’t compromise on the quality of implants and the safety of our patients.
How do I get the size I want?
Breast size can usually be increased to approximately the size desired by the patient (within safe limits). During your consultation, we use innovative techniques to help you choose your implants’ size and shape so you can achieve the results you want.
Consultations are only ever with Consultant Plastic Surgeons (not salespeople), who will listen to your wishes, and give you the appropriate guidance. When needed, we will offer multiple consultations, at no extra cost, to allow you the opportunity and time to make the right decision for yourself.
Most women will have noticed that when measured in different shops, they are offered different cup sizes. Even with professional sizing, bra manufacturers don’t agree on what constitutes a specific cup size. As a result of this, there’s no way of guaranteeing a specific cup size following a breast augmentation, however, we make every effort to help you achieve the size you’re looking for.
The size of the breasts following surgery is the size of the original breast and the size of the implant, combined.
Shape:
The final shape depends on a number of factors, which include your existing breast shape, chest wall shape and the type of the implants used etc.
Breast implants are available in round and tear drop shapes of various proportions. Your choice of implant shape can depend on a number of factors, specific to you, which are discussed during your consultation with the Consultant. Breast implants alone will not drastically change the shape of your breast and in some cases of drooping or asymmetry, additional procedures may be recommended.
Scars:
The scars are in or near the crease under the breasts. They are initially red and usually take 6-12 months to mature.
Under or over the muscle?
Depending on the amount of existing breast tissue present, the surgeon will recommend whether the breast implant is placed under the breast tissue or under the muscle. Once you have this information, you can make your decision.
Both procedures/placements have advantages and disadvantages and these will be explained at your consultation. It is important that you give careful consideration to this information. Risks of visible rippling can be reduced by placing the implants under the muscle in suitable patients.
What is the recovery period?
The recovery period can vary from person to person, but for most women it takes 2 to 3 weeks.
When can I drive a car?
We recommend you avoid driving motor vehicles, or operating heavy machinery for 2 weeks.
When can I exercise?
Upper body exercises can be gradually started after 4 weeks, while gentle lower body exercise (for example, a relaxed walk) is recommended as soon as you feel comfortable.
When can I go back to work?
Depending on the type of work, most people find they can go back to work any time between 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery.
Can I breast feed?
In most cases, breastfeeding is possible after breast augmentation; however it is important to understand that even in the general population, some women are naturally unable to breastfeed. The presence of implants is not understood to be related to the ability to breastfeed.
Can I have correction of breast asymmetry (breasts of different size or shape)?
Correcting asymmetry may require something as simple as using different size implants, or as complex as a combination of different procedures, depending on the nature of the asymmetry. Your surgeon will make an assessment and recommend the most suitable course of action.
Limitations and potential risks:
The most common cause of dissatisfaction after this procedure is a mismatch between the expectations of the patient and what can physically be achieved safely. As a result of this, it is important to have realistic expectations and an understanding of what is physically achievable.
This understanding can only be acquired after a full consultation with a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. All surgical procedures carry certain risks and there are limitations of what can be achieved.
Aftercare:
Your wellbeing is our first priority. To monitor your progress we will arrange appointments at appropriate intervals for follow-up examinations with your surgeon. All your aftercare is fully included in the cost of surgery.
When you are discharged, care instructions will be given to you and you will have 24 hour access to trained staff who will be there to advise you should you have any questions or concerns.
2 weeks after surgery, one of our trained staff will see you and check your wounds. The surgeon who performed your surgery will see you after 6 weeks for a follow-up and as often as required until you are fully recovered. This follow-up is a standard and will be provided at no extra cost.
In the unlikely event of a problem, arrangements will be made for you to be seen by trained staff, and if required, by the surgeon who performed the procedure. As all our surgeons live and work locally, it is always possible to see your surgeon at relatively short notice, if required. Our surgeons don’t leave the country, or indeed the local area after performing the surgery. On the rare occasion that the surgeon leaves the local area for other commitments, there will always be another trained plastic surgeon from our team available to provide care.
In the unlikely event of a complication which is directly related to your surgery, we will provide or arrange further surgery and/or treatment at no extra cost.
Our Guarantee:
In the unlikely event of a complication which is directly related to your breast enlargement surgery, and can be corrected with medical or surgical intervention, we will provide or arrange further surgery and/or treatment at no extra cost for up to 3 years.
Lifetime aftercare:
A lifetime follow-up policy for all our patients is standard. If you need to consult Sthetix surgeons at any time after your initial follow-up consultation, you will be welcomed at no extra cost. This applies even years after your surgery.
