After the Surgery

Recovery is largely dependent on your body’s natural healing process. Since this is an outpatient surgery, most patients can return home the same day. In rare cases, patients may experience nausea or other health concerns that need to be monitored in the facility.

Short Term Recovery

Most patients opt to take it easy for the first few days following their surgery. Patients have reported the sensation of a blocked nose, and mild to moderate pain for a few days. Avoid taking aspirin to reduce the risk of nosebleeds. You may be prescribed pain medication or advised of other appropriate pain relief.

You can expect some swelling and bruising following your procedure, which should subside in a few days. In some cases, it may take a week or two to fully resolve. The most important thing is to listen to your body. Doing too much too soon can extend your healing time.

Resuming Daily Activities

Light or non-strenuous activity is possible after 5-7 days. Normal social activities can be resumed after two or three weeks, or when obvious signs of your procedure have diminished. Driving should be avoided for at least 10 days, if possible. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 3-6 weeks, or until advised by your surgeon.

Returning to Work

You may need to take up to two weeks off from work. If you’re comfortable with visible signs of your surgery, you can usually return to work or school after 10-days. The speed of your healing and the type of rhinoplasty you’ve had will contribute most to how long you should wait.

Full Recovery

The results of rhinoplasty are usually permanent. Most patients can see a difference as soon as your post-operative garments are removed, usually one-week post-op. Though you will see gradual changes in the appearance of your nose over several months, you should wait up to one year before making any decisions about the necessity for further surgery. It can take up to one year for your nose to adjust to its final profile and for you to see the final results.

Most patients find the somewhat lengthy recovery time to be well-worth the lifelong investment. No two procedures are done exactly the same and no two patients are alike. At Sthetix, we’ll create a unique post-surgical recovery plan based on your individual procedure and lifestyle. Our team is available throughout your recovery to answer questions or concerns you may have.
