A thread lift is a relatively new, minimally invasive procedure that lifts facial skin without surgery. Instead of removing excess skin, a thread lift suspends portions of loose skin using temporary sutures. Threads pull back the skin, lifting and tightening the face while promoting collagen production. Collagen supports wound healing and helps keep our skin strong and supple. The older we get, however, the less collagen our bodies produce.
The team at Sthetix uses state-of-the-art suspension sutures, which are safe and effective for long-term results. Thread lifts have such a short recovery time that patients often combine them with other nonsurgical procedures to create more harmonious results.
Your recovery time is dependent on your individual procedure and your body’s own healing process. Though mild bruising and swelling are normal (often lasting for one week), recovery from a thread lift is usually uneventful.
General recommendations for initial recovery include:
- Apply ice packs to the treated area
- Avoid overexposure to direct sunlight
- Sleep face-up in an elevated position
- Avoid strenuous activity
Your surgeon may prescribe pain medication for discomfort, or antibiotics if there is a risk of infection.
When Can I Go Back to Work?
Most patients return to work 3-days after their thread lift procedure. The type of work you do will have the most impact on when you should expect to return. If your job consists of strenuous activity or requires a lot of movement, you may want to take at least one week off.

When Can I Resume Normal Activities?
Some patients feel ready to resume daily activities a few days following surgery, others prefer to wait as many as two weeks before interacting socially.
You are encouraged to wait for at least 12-hours after your procedure before touching, wetting, or washing the treated area. Be careful not to scrub, exfoliate, or massage the treated area for a minimum of three weeks.
Two days after your procedure, you may apply makeup to cover any remaining bruising. You should check with your surgeon before applying any prescription-strength creams or topical medications.
When Can I Exercise Again?
One week after your thread lift, you can resume light forms of exercise, such as walking. Avoid exercise that strains the treated area or requires your head to be below your heart (yoga) for at least a week. Swimming must be postponed until the suture site has completely healed. Check with your surgeon before resuming strenuous exercise and weightlifting.
