Introduction to Mini Face Lift
A mini facelift is a less dramatic surgery than a full face and neck lift, designed to give a youthful appearance with smaller scars. The procedure tightens the skin and jawline, leaving your face with a noticeably firmer and toned appearance. This can be the perfect option if you feel you’re not quite ready for a full facelift or if you’d like to choose a more affordable option.
Who is suitable?
Many of our patients come to us as they are unhappy about the effects of aging such as sagging jowls, loose skin on the cheeks or smile lines. Our patients tend to have lost the youthful buoyancy in their skin and hope to regain a more toned and firmer appearance with a mini facelift.
The procedure and risks
A mini facelift is carried out under local anaesthetic (you are awake) and takes around 1-1.5 hours to complete. During the surgery, your surgeon will inject local anaesthetic in the area to be operated on. Once that area is numb, the surgeon will make an incision along the hairline of the sideburn and along the front of the ear. After that, the surgeon will lift the skin and use stitches to lift the underlying tissue and to fix it to tissue in the temple. Any excess skin is then removed and the wounds are closed. The skin can take around 7 to 10 days to heal and patients can return to work almost immediately after having a mini facelift. The lifting effect achieved by this procedure may last for 2-4 years and can be repeated to maintain the results, however the results are adversely affected by smoking, sun exposure and dehydration.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks. These include bruising, swelling, infection, bleeding, skin loss, wide or red scars, haematoma and prolonged pain. Risks associated with this particular procedure also include injury to the facial nerve branch and paralysis of facial muscles. If you smoke, your risks are higher and therefore we request that you stop smoking at least 6 weeks before the procedure, and not to resume smoking.
As your wellbeing is our number one priority, we offer a comprehensive and personalised aftercare package all included in your treatment.
After you are discharged, we will provide you with post-operative care instructions and you will have 24-hour access to trained staff that will be on hand to advise you should you have any questions or concerns.
After the surgery, we will arrange appointments for follow-up examinations with your surgeon to monitor your progress and check that you are recovering well (it usually takes 7-10 days to recover and heal from this procedure).
Two weeks after surgery, one of our trained staff will see you and check your wounds. Your surgeon will see you after 6 weeks for a follow-up and if necessary, for subsequent appointments until you are fully recovered. These follow-ups are standard and will be provided at no extra cost.
In the unlikely event of a problem, we’ll immediately make arrangements for you to be seen by trained staff and (if needed), by the surgeon who performed the procedure. As the Sthetix surgeons live and work locally, you can always see your surgeon at relatively short notice. After performing the surgery our surgeons don’t leave the country or the local area. Very rarely, a surgeon may leave the local area for other commitments but if this happens, we will ensure that there is another trained plastic surgeon from our team available to provide you with comprehensive care.
In the unlikely event of a complication directly related to your surgery, we would provide or arrange further surgery and/or treatment at no extra cost for up to 1 year.
