Introduction To The ‘R’ Face And Neck Lift

The latest plastic surgery techniques to hit the cosmetic world of face lift is the ‘R’ Face and Neck Lift technique. This is a 2 hour procedure which is commonly carried out as a day case under Local anaesthesia.

The ‘R’ Lift is a modified and minimally invasive facelift technique that is named after its creator, Mr. Riaz. The ‘R’ Lift involves little skin undermining or deep dissection of tissue, which results in little to no bruising or swelling after the procedure.  The ‘R’ face and neck lift produces results similar to those produced by more invasive and aggressive facelift procedures with lower risks and less downtime. Because expert and dramatic results can be achieved with little downtime, the ‘R’ Facelift is becoming more and more popular with patients that want to return to their regular, day-to-day routines as quickly as possible after surgery. It is commonly carried out under Local anaesthesia ie awake(avoiding the need for General anaesthesia and hospital stay)

One must remember that Facial Rejuvenation requires a correction of skin blemishes, replacement of lost volume from the face and tightening of loose tissues. A face lift procedure will only tighten but will not replace the lost volume or improve the skin quality.

Who Is Suitable?

The ‘R’ Lift technique is suitable for most types of patients, especially those that desire a quick recovery process. It is also suitable:

  • If you are experiencing early facial changes due to ageing
  • If you require revisional surgery or a secondary facelift
  • If you have moderate to severe signs of ageing on the face but are inclined to avoid more invasive, surgical procedures

Rest assured that your suitability will always be assessed during your initial consultation with one of our highly experienced plastic surgeons.

Before ‘R’ Lift Surgery

Before your surgery, there are several points we ask you to adhere to in order to achieve optimum results and a smooth procedure:

  • If you smoke, please stop at least 6 weeks prior to your surgery and do not restart until fully healed
  • If you take oral contraceptives, please stop consuming these as they can increase the risk of DVT
  • Do not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Avoid nutritional supplements and herbal medicines

Prior to your procedure date, we will ask you to attend a medical examination. During this assessment, tests may be carried out to ensure your safety during surgery and under any anaesthesia.

The Procedure And Risks

Procedure

The ‘R’ Lift procedure can be performed as a day procedure in the hospital or can incur an overnight stay if necessary. Unlike many face and neck surgery techniques, the ‘R’ Lift can be performed under local anaesthetic if requested by the patient but is often performed under general, too (when the patient is asleep).

An ‘R’ Facelift procedure with one of our experienced surgeons at Sthetix should usually take about 2 hours. The surgery is carried out with a discreet incision along the hair line, extending infront of the ear. Deeper tissues are then lifted and tightened. Dissolving stiches are then used to close the skin. You need to wear a support garment for about a week while the wounds heal.

Risks*

This procedure is designed to achieve excellent results with a reduced risk and minimal downtime. If only the ‘R’ Lift is performed there is little or no swelling and bruising on the face. If combined with other procedures the risk of bruising and swelling increases.

As with any surgery, there is, of course, the possibility of risks and side effects, but in the hands of highly reputable, experienced and qualified surgeons such as those in our Sthetix team, the risks are greatly minimised. You are likely to have scars in areas which are easy to hide and gradually fade. In some cases, you may experience very slight bruising and swelling. The risks will be discussed in detail by your surgeon at your consultation.

Results*

Results* should achieve a tighter jawline, a tighter neck and improved cheeks and nasolabial folds. Most patients report very little discomfort and recover quickly, enabling them to return to their normal routine very soon after surgery. People heal differently and the nature of your tissue and lifestyle may impact on the quality and longevity of the results. It can take 6-12 weeks for you to see the final results. A face and neck lift will not replace volume loss which can occur as a result of ageing changes and this may require additional procedures.

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation is a combination of treating a number of different aspects of the face to get an overall fresher and healthier look.  Usually, laxity of tissues, poor quality of skin (sun damage) and loss of volume need to be addressed to get and overall improvement.

FAQs

Will I have scars from the ‘R’ Lift?*
It is likely that you will have scars once you have fully recovered from the procedure. The scars are in areas which are easy to hide and gradually fade. However, the scars never disappear.

How long will it take to recover?*
The length of time it takes to recover and heal varies from person to person. You should recover from the ‘R’ Lift in about one week to ten days and will then be able to return to your normal routine.

How long will results last from ‘R’ Lift surgery?*
This completely depends on the quality of your skin and underlying tissue and your lifestyle choices. Everyone ages differently, so nothing is guaranteed, but your surgeon will be able to discuss approximate times that your results* should last for during your consultation.
