Do you have flabby arms that make you feel so self-conscious you avoid wearing sleeveless clothes? An arm lift may be the solution for you. An arm lift will sculpt your arms and create smoother, slimmer contours. However, surgery can be a cause of anxiety, so it’s important to know what to expect during surgery and understand what recovery from an arm lift is like.
Here at Sthetix our team of plastic surgeons have extensive experience performing arm lift surgery, so you can rest assured that you are in expert hands.
What Is An Arm Lift?
An arm lift or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that tones and tightens the upper arms, by removing excess skin and fat. Surplus skin on the upper arms is often the result of ageing, which causes the skin to lose its natural tone. Significant weight loss can also contribute to saggy skin on the arms.
What Does Arm Lift Surgery Involve?
Arm lift surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and takes around 1-2 hours. The surgical incision is usually made on the underside of the arm and extends from the armpit to the elbow. However, the length of the incision varies, depending on the amount of skin to be removed. In some cases, liposuction is done to remove the excess fat. Your surgeon will discuss the options with you during the consultation.
What To Expect After an Arm Lift?
After arm lift surgery, our trained staff will be available to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have about the recovery process. You will also be provided with comprehensive instructions regarding post-operative care. Recovery after arm lift surgery typically takes 2-3 weeks.
Armlift Consultations Available
Your arms may be bandaged after surgery, and you will be asked to wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks, to help minimise swelling.
It is normal to experience some mild swelling and bruising after arm lift surgery, as well as periodic discomfort. The swelling takes about 10 days to subside.
Post-operative scar care is very important, so our staff will arrange an appointment for you 2 weeks after surgery, and check your wounds. In addition, a follow-up appointment with your surgeon is scheduled after 6 weeks.
Are You A Suitable Candidate for an Arm Lift?
If you are dissatisfied with the sagging skin on your upper arms and are in good health, you may be a suitable candidate for an arm lift. Ideal candidates should be at or near their desired body weight and have realistic expectations regarding brachioplasty.
If you would like to remove excess skin on your arms, an arm lift will improve the aesthetic appearance of your arms, and make you feel more confident.
